Monroe's Article Relatable to Persuasive Speaking

Monroe noted that it is important to know why some articles are included and others are not in our main points of a speech. I found it interesting that the Motivated Sequence was derived from sales techniques, but understand that there are similarities between the two. I completely agree with the fact that you need to capture the attention of the audience with the introduction. An example of the need step is to note the significance and relate it to health issues or a daily event. In a persuasive speech, it is important to be logical and back a statement with facts and historical figures. The visualization/action steps serve as motivators for the audience to take a stand on the subject and implement actions. A speaker needs to motivate the audience by informing them of the issue at hand. A word that I learned in this article was meso-structure, which is a collection of the spatial, causal, chronological, and topical patterns that Monroe reviewed in relation to public speaking. This article helped to reinforce speaking tips and related directly to our persuasive speaking assignment through thorough examples.
